March 1ST: THIS GOING TO BE AN EXTENDED SAEASON

It was a busy day on the trails on Saturday. With major traffic the trails took a beating because of our famous Danny Burger Run. At this time we would like to share our appreciation to The Big D Drive-in Restaurant and owner Richard Dobson. Richard has supported this event for the last 28 years and we want to thank him very much for his major support, both as a sponsor and his 20 plus years as President of Club #1.

Grooming last night saw the #2 with Roger at the helm do Trail 19/23 from Nepisiguit Lodge to Bass River and back. The #3 groomer had Mickey groom 23 to Red Pine Shelter, up the 507, Trail 22 North to the turnaround. He will turn on 22 South to Nine Mile Shelter and Trail 23 back to Rogers Lake.

Here we are in virtually our last month of snowmobiling and the weather is now a key factor on how long the snowmobile season is going last. March is and always was the best part of the winter for sledding. It provides milder weather and longer days. But at the same time the temperatures also dictate the times of the day which is more suitable for grooming and with the sun higher in the sky it always eats away at the trail base. So going forward we will need the periodic snowfall to extend our season. Let’s hope St Patrick will provide us with an extension to our season. So far this season we have little to complain about with the trails being consistently in the neighborhood of 8/10. Please sled safe for the remainder of the season and watch out for those big black animals.

Samedi, les sentiers ont été très fréquentés. En raison de notre célèbre course Danny Burger Run, ils ont été mis à rude épreuve par un trafic important. Nous tenons à remercier chaleureusement le restaurant drive-in The Big D et son propriétaire, Richard Dobson. Richard soutient cet événement depuis 28 ans et nous le remercions infiniment pour son soutien indéfectible, à la fois comme commanditaire et pour ses plus de 20 ans à la présidence du Club n° 1.

Hier soir, l'équipe n° 2, menée par Roger, a préparé les sentiers 19 et 23, du Nepisiguit Lodge à Bass River et retour. Mickey, l'équipe n° 3, a préparé le sentier 23 jusqu'au refuge Red Pine, puis le sentier 22 Nord jusqu'au point de demi-tour, en empruntant la route 507. Il prendra ensuite le sentier 22 Sud jusqu'au refuge Nine Mile et le sentier 23 pour revenir à Rogers Lake.

Nous voici dans la dernière ligne droite de la saison de motoneige et la météo est désormais un facteur déterminant pour sa durée. Mars a toujours été le meilleur mois de l'hiver pour la motoneige. Le temps est plus doux et les journées plus longues. Cependant, les températures déterminent aussi les moments de la journée les plus propices au damage, et le soleil, plus haut dans le ciel, érode constamment la base des pistes. C'est pourquoi, pour prolonger la saison, nous aurons besoin de chutes de neige régulières. Espérons que la Saint-Patrick nous offrira cette prolongation. Jusqu'à présent, nous n'avons pas grand-chose à redire, les pistes étant constamment en excellent état (8/10). Soyez prudents sur les pistes pour le reste de la saison et faites attention aux gros animaux noirs !
