Happy Thursday: Wing Night at Nepisiguit

We are in the midst of another couple of centimeters of snow falling here in Bathurst and it could be much more in the higher elevations as I just got a call from Alyre at Serpentine and he said they got about 4 inches so far and it is still snowing. He is telling me that Trails out of Doaktown off of Trail 42 are a bit scratchy according to some sledders, but Trail 58 from Blackville is okay. I see that Ron is on his return route from the 505 Mount Fronsac Loop.

Il neige encore quelques centimètres ici à Bathurst, et il pourrait y en avoir beaucoup plus en altitude. Alyre, de Serpentine, m'a appelé : il est tombé environ 10 cm et il neige toujours. Il m'a dit que les sentiers au départ de Doaktown, à partir du sentier 42, sont un peu difficiles d'accès d'après certains motoneigistes, mais que le sentier 58, à partir de Blackville, est praticable. Je vois que Ron est sur le chemin du retour de la boucle du mont Fronsac (505).

Wing Night tonight at Nepisiguit Lodge. Always a fun time!!! Last night when Ron returned from Bass Rive, Mickey took the #2 from Nepisiguit into Rogers Lake and back on Trail 23. This morning Ron will take the #3 out of Rogers Lake and head up Piston Alley and into the 550 Mount Fronsac Loop and back to Rogers Lake where Jacob will take over and groom 23 to Red Pine Shelter, up the 507, Trail 22 North to the turnaround. He will turn on 22 South to Nine Mile Shelter (508 Forty Cluster and Nine Mile Cluster) and Trail 23 back to Rogers Lake. Then tonight, Mickey will take the #2 and shine up the Trail 23 from Nepisiguit Lodge to nine Mile Shelter up Trail 22 to the 507 and down to Red Pine Shelter and return to Nepisiguit via Trail 23. Ron Texted me that the section of Trail 19 where it runs adjacent to the CNR rail bed out of Rough Waters turned out okay since we got that extra snowfall this week.

The Miramichi club did the 52 and that trail has improved immensely. The Peninsula clubs are also working hard on Trails 19 and 23 and those trails are also approaching 10/10. The Chaleur Club has been also doing a very good job with Trails 19 up into Island lake and Trail 22.

At this time of the Winter so far this year, it has been the most snow down at this time compared to the last three years. So as bad as we think it is there is reason to be a bit more optimistic in what we think of our winters here in the North. Thank the weather man!

Hier soir, au retour de Bass Rive, Ron a pris le sentier n° 2 depuis Nepisiguit jusqu'à Rogers Lake, puis est revenu par le sentier n° 23. Ce matin, Ron prendra le sentier n° 3 depuis Rogers Lake, remontera Piston Alley, puis rejoindra la boucle 550 du mont Fronsac avant de retourner à Rogers Lake. Jacob prendra ensuite le relais et entretiendra le sentier n° 23 jusqu'au refuge Red Pine, puis remontera le sentier n° 507, le sentier n° 22 Nord jusqu'au point de demi-tour. Il bifurquera ensuite sur le sentier n° 22 Sud jusqu'au refuge Nine Mile (secteur 508 Forty Cluster et Nine Mile Cluster) et enfin sur le sentier n° 23 pour revenir à Rogers Lake. Ce soir, Mickey prendra le n° 2 et remontera le sentier 23 depuis le Nepisiguit Lodge jusqu'au refuge Nine Mile, puis le sentier 22 jusqu'au 507, avant de redescendre au refuge Red Pine et de revenir à Nepisiguit par le sentier 23. Ron m'a envoyé un texto pour me dire que la portion du sentier 19 qui longe la voie ferrée du CN à la sortie de Rough Waters était praticable grâce aux chutes de neige supplémentaires de cette semaine.

Le club de Miramichi a damé la piste 52, qui s'est considérablement améliorée. Les clubs de la Péninsule travaillent également d'arrache-pied sur les pistes 19 et 23, qui sont presque parfaites. Le club de Chaleur a aussi fait un excellent travail sur la piste 19 jusqu'à Island Lake et sur la piste 22.

À cette période de l'hiver, on a enregistré les plus fortes chutes de neige de ces trois dernières années. Aussi pénible que cela puisse paraître, il y a des raisons d'être un peu plus optimistes quant à nos hivers ici dans le Nord. Merci au météorologue !
