Ron arrived at the Host at 4PM. Did the 500, 501, 505 on the way. Roger will take over this evening and head back to Nepisiguit. Jacob is on his way back to Rogers Lake. He is doing the Austin Brook Cluster 507 on the way.

Update 12.45PM

Ron is about two hours from the Atlantic Host. I’m thinking he is going to do all the side trails before The Host, 500 into Riverside Drive, 501 in towards the Civic Center and Quality Inn, and 505 into The Irving. Jacob on the #3 just left Rogers Lake on the 509 towards Shady Lane and the Nepisiguit Lodge on Trail23. It looks like we got 10 to 12 cm in this snowfall. The wind is causing some drifting, but it has died down somewhat.

Je pense qu'il va emprunter tous les sentiers secondaires avant d'arriver à l'Atlantic Host : le 500 jusqu'à Riverside Drive, le 501 vers le Civic Center et le Quality Inn, et le 505 jusqu'à l'Irving. Jacob, sur le n° 3, vient de quitter Rogers Lake par le 509 en direction de Shady Lane et du Nepisiguit Lodge sur le sentier 23. Il semble qu'il soit tombé entre 10 et 12 cm de neige. Le vent provoque quelques congères, mais il s'est un peu calmé.

Good Tuesday Morning. We got another 10 cm again last night and it is the reason why we’re only starting out this morning. Before I get into the grooming I must give my opinion on our snowfall here in the north this winter. From experience in grooming it is always easier to groom with the typical snow falls we’ve received so far this winter in the range of 5 cm to 15 cm. You are not dealing with trails that are easily moguled. So far this winter, we have a lot of things going for us to have the trails like they are. First it is the cold season with lots of frost, second is that there were no melt downs in typical January and of course thirdly the lack of big snowfalls which I eluded too.

Getting back to grooming, Ron will have two groomers out this morning with Jacob on the #3 out of Rogers Lake towards Nepisiguit on Trail 23 and Ron on the #2 out of Nepisiguit towards the Atlantic Host in Bathurst. I will give an update later in their progress. We have the #1 groomer out of commission and it may be for the duration of the season, but we’ll see as the season progresses.

A little on safety with moose encounters. Please be aware that there is always the possibility of encountering these animals. Please give then their space if it means waiting for them to get off the trail and always be aware that they can turn on you, so be ready for a counter action. Also be aware that they can jump out of the trees at any given time so especially in deep wooded areas where the trails are on the narrow side, caution should be taken at all times. SLED SAFE!!!!!

Bonjour. Il est tombé 10 cm de neige la nuit dernière, ce qui explique pourquoi nous ne commençons que ce matin. Avant de parler du damage, je dois vous donner mon avis sur les chutes de neige que nous avons eues ici dans le nord cet hiver. D'expérience, je sais que damage est toujours plus facile avec les chutes de neige habituelles que nous avons eues jusqu'à présent, entre 5 et 15 cm. Les pistes ne sont pas facilement bosselées. Jusqu'à présent, plusieurs facteurs nous permettent d'avoir des pistes dans cet état. Premièrement, la saison froide avec beaucoup de gel, deuxièmement, il n'y a pas eu de fonte importante en janvier, et troisièmement, comme je l'ai mentionné, l'absence de grosses chutes de neige.

Pour en revenir au damage, Ron aura deux dameuses sur les pistes ce matin : Jacob sera sur la n° 3, au départ de Rogers Lake en direction de Nepisiguit sur la piste 23, et Ron sur la n° 2, au départ de Nepisiguit en direction de l'Atlantic House à Bathurst. Je vous tiendrai au courant de l'avancement des travaux. Notre dameuse principale est hors service, et ce pour le reste de la saison. Nous verrons bien.

Quelques consignes de sécurité concernant les rencontres avec des orignaux : sachez qu'il est toujours possible de croiser ces animaux. Gardez vos distances, même si cela signifie attendre qu'ils quittent la piste, et soyez toujours conscients qu'ils peuvent se retourner contre vous. Soyez donc prêt à réagir. Sachez également qu'ils peuvent surgir des arbres à tout moment. Soyez particulièrement prudents dans les zones boisées denses où les sentiers sont étroits. Conduisez en toute sécurité !
